Initial Concepts

The birth of a child is an important situation in women's life because during postpartum many changes and psychological rehabilitation take place, which can often cause mood swings associated with new motherhood.

Mood swings in postpartum has gained prominence and importance as a public health problem in our country, affecting both mother's health and infant’s normal development.

PPD (postpartum depression) occurs mainly in the first four weeks after birth.

The PPD reaches its maximum intensity in the first six months after the baby is born (Moraes, 2006).
