At first, there may be a stimulatory attempt of maternal behavior by the child, but with the persistence of depression the relationship between mother and child can be damaged as the baby develops. This will be more intensely experienced in the first year of the baby.

It is worth noting that the effects of postpartum depression are closely related to the duration of the disorder, that is, the longer persist, the more severe the consequences for the psychosocial development of children (SPITZ, 1998).
